Tlos Ancient City
A Lycian hilltop city with a stadium, theatre, and rock tombs — often quiet even in summer, with Saklıkent gorge nearby.
Tlos was one of the six major Lycian cities. The ruins sprawl across a terraced hillside: an Ottoman citadel on the summit, a Roman theatre mid-slope, a stadium, and temple-tombs cut into the rock. Bellerophon and Pegasus appear in local legend here. The site sits above the Xanthos valley on the road toward Saklıkent, so it pairs naturally with the gorge on a long day out from Fethiye.
“For a full Lycian city on a hillside without the crowds of the coast.”
Climb to the acropolis first while you have energy — the view and the tombs are the payoff, and afternoon sun on the open slope is brutal.
Steep paths and uneven stone; not suitable for limited mobility.
