Kayaköy Ghost Village
Hundreds of stone houses and two Greek churches on a hillside — an entire village left empty in 1923, now an open-air museum.
Kayaköy (Levissi) was a Greek Orthodox town of several thousand people until the population exchange of 1923. Today roughly 500 roofless stone houses climb the slope between pine and scrub, with the Lower and Upper Churches still standing. Walk the lanes in silence, then climb the red-dotted trail to the Little Chapel for a view over the valley toward the sea. The Lycian Way starts (or ends) in Fethiye and passes through here on the way to Ölüdeniz.
“To walk roofless stone lanes through a whole abandoned hillside village.”
Wear trainers, not sandals — the lanes are loose stone and the chapel trail is stony and exposed.
Uneven cobbles and steep lanes; churches involve steps.
