Telmessos Ancient Theatre
A small Roman theatre in the middle of modern Fethiye, with the harbour and rock tombs in the same sightline.
Telmessos was the Lycian port that became Fethiye. Its theatre sits on the slope above the marina, partly buried under later building but still readable: semicircular cavea, stage foundations, and a view straight down to the water. Sarcophagi from the same period still sit on streets nearby — the city never really left its ancient layer. Combine a quick stop here with the Amyntas tombs ten minutes uphill.
“To see a working city's Roman theatre still looking at the same harbour.”
Read it from the lower pavement on the harbour side first — the proportions make more sense from there than from the top gate.
Street-level viewing is flat; the upper cavea has steps and may be fenced.
