Pinara was one of the six major Lycian cities, and its ruins sprawl across a rounded hilltop with views to the snow-capped Akdağlar in winter. Hundreds of pigeonhole tombs pierce the cliff face; the theatre and agora lie among pine trees with little crowding. It is less visited than Tlos or Xanthos, which is part of the appeal — bring water and good shoes.

For Lycian cliff tombs and a mountain theatre without the coach-tour queues.

Local tip

Combine with Xanthos and Letoon on the same valley day; Pinara is the quiet middle stop.

Accessibility

Unpaved paths and climbs between tomb clusters; steep theatre seating.
