Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon
A sheltered turquoise lagoon below the pine-covered slopes of Babadağ, and one of Turkey's most photographed beaches.
Ölüdeniz means 'dead sea' for its calm, wind-protected water, which glows from pale jade to deep turquoise over the day. The spit of sand separating the lagoon from the open Aegean is a nature reserve. Babadağ rises straight behind it, so tandem paragliders drift down over the bay almost constantly — the descent is one of the most popular in the world.
“For the calm turquoise water and the near-constant paragliders drifting off Babadağ.”
The blue is deepest around midday; for a quieter shoreline, walk south past the nature-park gate rather than staying on the town beach.
Soft sand and a gravel path at the nature park; limited step-free access to the water.
