Faralya Village
A tiny clifftop village perched above Butterfly Valley, with sweeping sea views and a stretch of the Lycian Way running through it.
Faralya is a small neighbourhood of Fethiye, famous mainly for its dramatic perch high above Butterfly Valley. The village itself is a loose string of homes and a few family-run pensions, with a population of around 640. It feels more like a remote farming hamlet than a resort, despite being only a 20-minute drive from Ölüdeniz.
The Lycian Way, Turkey’s long-distance coastal trail, cuts right through Faralya, making it a natural overnight stop for hikers. From various points along the cliff edge you get vertigo-inducing views down to the blue water and, if you time it right, the sunset lighting up the valley walls is something special.
“To soak in the wide-open views over Butterfly Valley and catch a quieter slice of Lycian coastal life.”
Don't be tempted by the steep, unmarked trail down to Butterfly Valley from the village – it's been the scene of rescues. Take the boat from Ölüdeniz instead.
Village paths are uneven and unpaved; steep cliff-side terrain is not wheelchair accessible.
