Sedir Adası rises from Gökova Bay with ruins of ancient Cedrae and a beach of powder-fine sand said to have been shipped from Egypt for Cleopatra. Whether or not the legend holds, the texture of the sand is genuinely distinctive. Day boats run from Marmaris and nearby resorts; the island is protected, so visitor numbers are capped and the beach feels surprisingly quiet off-peak.

For a boat day to a beach with sand unlike anywhere else on the Turkish coast.

Local tip

Book a morning boat to beat the afternoon flotilla; the sand is hottest midday — water shoes help on the pebbles near the jetty.

Accessibility

Boat transfer plus sandy beach; ruins on uneven ground.
