Bozburun
A gulet-building town on a remote peninsula, with clear water, thyme hills, and almost no large-scale tourism.
Bozburun faces the Greek island of Symi across a narrow strait and has built wooden gulets by hand for generations. The town itself is low-key: a harbour lined with cafes, a few pension stays, and walking trails into hills scented with wild thyme. It is the antidote to Marmaris package strips — come for slow meals, boat day trips, and swimming off the quay.
“To see where Turkey's wooden gulets are still built and swim in water that feels a world from Marmaris.”
Stay for lunch at the harbour — the fish is excellent — and ask any captain about a half-day cove hop; competition keeps prices honest.
Harbour is flat; peninsula roads are winding and steep.
