Patara Beach
Endless sandy beach next to the Lycian ruins of Patara, also a key loggerhead turtle nesting site. Separate tickets for ruins and beach access.
Patara Beach is a long, sandy stretch on the Turkish Riviera, backing onto the ruins of the ancient Lycian city of Patara. You can combine a swim with a wander through millennia-old ruins, including a parliament building and theatre. The beach is also a protected nesting site for loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta); in summer, sections may be cordoned off after dark. Access to the beach and the archaeological site requires separate tickets, so plan accordingly.
“Swim next to 2000-year-old ruins and witness sea turtle nesting grounds in one trip.”
Buy the archaeological site ticket before heading to the sand; beach-only access won't get you into the ruins.
Sandy beach with no boardwalks; wheelchair users may need assistance on soft sand. Ruins have uneven ancient stone paths.
