'Saklıkent' means 'hidden city', and the gorge earns it: walls rise 300 metres over a channel barely a few metres wide in places. A boardwalk clings to the rock at the mouth, then the route continues by wading through cold, fast, shin-to-thigh-deep water. The chill is real even in August, which is exactly why locals come to cool off.

To wade a 300-metre-deep slot canyon that stays icy cold in high summer.

Local tip

Bring water shoes or rent them at the gate; the riverbed is slick and the current is stronger than it looks after the boardwalk ends.

Accessibility

Wading over slippery rock and cold current; not suitable for limited mobility or young children unaccompanied.
