Carved into the slope of Göktepe in the 4th century BC and later enlarged by the Romans, this theatre once seated around 13,000 spectators. Its stone tiers frame a wide view over the bay, the castle, and the whitewashed town below. Restored in modern times, it now hosts open-air concerts and festivals through the warm months, so the ancient acoustics still get a workout.

For the best free panorama of Bodrum's bay from a 2,300-year-old grandstand.

Local tip

Climb up for sunset when the town lights come on; check the summer programme in case a concert is on that evening.

Accessibility

Steep stone steps up to and within the theatre; no step-free route to the upper tiers.
