Mihrimah Sultan Mosque (Üsküdar)
This 16th-century Ottoman mosque by the Üsküdar ferry terminal is one of the district's best-known landmarks. It once stood right on the water's edge.
Mihrimah Sultan Mosque looks out over the Bosphorus waterfront in Üsküdar, a short walk from the ferry pier — which gave it the local name 'İskele Camii'. Built by Mimar Sinan for Mihrimah Sultan, daughter of Süleyman the Magnificent, it forms a twin commission with the mosque of the same name in Edirnekapı. Before the coastal road was built, the mosque would have been right at the water, accessible by boat. Today it remains an active place of worship, so visits outside prayer times are necessary.
“See a Mimar Sinan masterpiece that once welcomed visitors arriving by boat to Üsküdar.”
Visit outside prayer times if you want to go inside—otherwise you’ll only see the courtyard.
