Feshane
A sprawling 19th-century fez factory on the Golden Horn, now hosting art fairs, exhibitions and occasional flea markets.
Built in the mid-1800s to produce fezzes for the Ottoman army and bureaucracy, this vast industrial hall sat empty for decades before being revived as an event space. Its brick walls and towering ceiling give you a clear sense of the scale of late Ottoman manufacturing. Now it hosts rotating art and design fairs, Istanbul Biennial side events, concerts, and the occasional weekend flea market. The waterfront setting adds fresh air and views across the Golden Horn to the old city. Check the online calendar before visiting—many days it's simply closed, and showing up unannounced often means a locked gate.
“To see how a massive Ottoman industrial space gets reinvented, and maybe catch a design fair or a film screening.”
Check their event calendar online; the giant hall is often closed between exhibitions, and walking up to an empty building is a common disappointment.
The main exhibition hall is large, flat and step-free; wheelchair accessible, though temporary event setups may introduce obstacles.
