Feneryolu
A quiet residential pocket in Kadıköy, named after the historic road to the Fenerbahçe lighthouse. Nothing monumental, just everyday Istanbul life.
Feneryolu sits just uphill from the Marmara shore, wedged between the leafy neighbourhood of Fenerbahçe and the dense high-rises of Fikirtepe. The name itself tells you what it once was — the road that led to the Fenerbahçe lighthouse, long before the area filled with apartment blocks.
Today it's a calm, lived-in quarter where low-rise buildings, small greengrocers, and neighbourhood bakeries define the rhythm of the day. There are no landmarks to tick off, just streets that rise and fall gently, lined with buildings from the 1960s and 70s, occasional palm trees, and the odd cat dozing on a windowsill.
If you're walking from Bağdat Caddesi up towards Fikirtepe, Feneryolu is that stretch where Kadıköy slows down. It's not somewhere you come to see something specific — it's somewhere you pass through to feel the city breathing.
“To see a slice of local Kadıköy life on a street named after a lighthouse route – no queues, no crowds.”
Walk up Feneryolu Street from the Bağdat Caddesi end; the quiet side streets around Taşlıbayır slope offer a glimpse of old apartment blocks that most people rush past.
Sokaklar yokuşlu ve kaldırımlar dar; tekerlekli sandalye için bazı noktalar zorlayıcı olabilir.
