Atatürk Arboretum
A quiet escape in Bahçeköy, this arboretum houses thousands of tree species along forested trails and small lakes, especially colorful in fall.
Atatürk Arboretum stretches over a valley near the Belgrade Forest, functioning as a living tree museum. Laid out with themed sections, its walking paths lead you past oaks, maples, and conifers from across the globe. A couple of small ponds add to the calm, and benches are placed where the canopy opens to views.
Because picnics and loud music are not allowed, the atmosphere stays remarkably serene. Autumn is the undisputed peak season, when the collection of maples and sweetgums turns the whole place into a canvas of reds and golds. Spring blossoms are lovely too, but far fewer people know about them.
“To walk among towering trees from around the world, especially dazzling in autumn.”
Bring a thermos of tea; picnics aren't allowed, but there are benches with great views. Visit in late October for the best autumn colors.
Paths are unpaved and hilly; most areas are difficult for wheelchair access and strollers.
