Termessos
Termessos is an ancient Pisidian city perched high in the Taurus Mountains, offering a rugged hike and spectacular ruins with few crowds.
Termessos sits at about 1,000 metres on the slopes of Güllük Dağı, 17 kilometres northwest of Antalya. This well-preserved ancient city was built on a natural platform, and reaching it requires a steep uphill walk from the car park — expect a good 40-minute climb. The effort is rewarded with the remains of a theatre, agora, and many tombs scattered across the mountainside. The surrounding forest and mountain views make it feel wild and remote. Because it's less known, you'll often have the place almost to yourself. Plan for at least half a day, bring plenty of water, and wear sturdy shoes.
“An ancient city that rewards effort with solitude and sweeping mountain views.”
Start before 8am to beat the heat and the crowds; the morning light on the ruins is beautiful.
The site requires a steep, uneven uphill walk on rocky terrain. Not suitable for wheelchairs or those with limited mobility.
