Side Ancient City
Ancient port city with ruins of Temple of Apollo and theatre, set among modern resort streets in Side.
Side was once a major port city of Pamphylia, and its ruins blend into the modern resort town of the same name. The most prominent structures are the well-preserved Roman theatre (capacity ~15,000) and the Temple of Apollo, whose columns frame sunset views over the Mediterranean. You'll also find remains of the agora, city walls, and a nymphaeum—all scattered within walking distance of hotels and shops. The site is largely open-air, so plan for sun exposure.
“Roman ruins intertwined with a modern resort town—a unique mix of history and holiday.”
Weekday mornings are quietest; the western gate entrance near the harbour is less crowded.
The site has uneven stone paths and many steps; not wheelchair accessible. Some areas require climbing.
