Arykanda Ancient City
A sprawling Ancient Lycian city set on a steep mountainside near Finike, with a well-preserved theatre offering sweeping valley views. Shade is scarce, so plan accordingly.
Arykanda, or Arycanda, is an ancient Lycian city sprawled across five large terraces on a mountain slope. The ruins include a well-preserved theatre, agora, baths, and a stadium, giving a sense of a once-thriving settlement. The theatre terrace offers sweeping valley views, but shade here is limited.
Unlike coastal sites, Arykanda feels remote and peaceful. Pine-scented air and distant goat bells accompany the climb. Summer heat is intense, so morning visits are best.
Parking is just off the Finike-Elmalı road, and a short, steep path leads to the entrance. Wear sturdy shoes—the terrain is uneven and ancient steps are worn.
“To wander the terraced ruins of a Lycian city strung across a pine-dotted mountainside, far from the coastal crowds.”
Bring water and a hat; the theatre terrace has no shade, but the pine grove near the parking area is a good spot to cool off.
The steep, unpaved paths and steps make the site inaccessible for wheelchair users and difficult for those with limited mobility.
