One day in Sultanahmet without the scatter
Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, and Topkapı in walking order — with one rule that keeps the day from collapsing.

Sultanahmet fails when you treat four heavy stops as nearby. They are near on a map and far in queue time. This day works if you pick one paid interior that actually needs a ticket window, and treat the rest as walk-and-look.

Walking order on the map
Four stops in one compact arc — protect the cistern ticket, skip the bazaar.
Morning: the skyline pair
Start at Hagia Sophia when the square is still waking. Do the exterior circuit first if the line looks wrong; the building reads from outside more clearly than most interiors. Cross to the Blue Mosque courtyard next — courtyards are free, calm, and photograph better than the rush inside.

Midday: go underground once
Basilica Cistern is the one ticket worth protecting. Go before lunch if you can. After the cistern, eat somewhere small off the main tourist strip — not in the first row of tables facing the tram.

Afternoon: Topkapı or skip
Topkapı is a half-day if you do it properly. If energy is gone, walk the outer walls and the park views and call it. If you go in, pick harem OR treasury — not both on a first visit.
The one rule
Never add Grand Bazaar on the same day. That is how Sultanahmet becomes a blur. Save the bazaar for a separate half-day with the Spice Bazaar.
Four landmarks. One ticket you protect. Zero bazaar detours.
