Yeniköy
A quiet Bosphorus neighborhood lined with impressive wooden yalıs, perfect for a scenic waterside walk between İstinye and Tarabya.
Yeniköy is a historic village on the European shore of the Bosphorus, sitting snugly between İstinye and Tarabya. While it’s now officially a neighbourhood of Istanbul, it still feels like a distinct waterfront settlement with a rhythm of its own.
The main draw is the row of grand wooden yalıs that front the water. These elaborate mansions, many from the late 19th century, are among the finest examples of Bosphorus domestic architecture. A few have been restored as luxury hotels or private clubs, but most remain private homes.
Walking the seaside road is the best way to experience the area. You can start from İstinye and make your way north, stopping for tea at one of the modest kıraathanes or pastry shops along the route. It’s a low-key alternative to the more polished Bosphorus villages farther up the coast.
“To walk a scenic stretch of the Bosphorus and admire some of Istanbul’s most striking wooden yalıs without the crowds.”
Stroll north from İstinye early on a weekday to have the waterfront to yourself; weekends bring local picnickers.
The coastal road is flat and paved, but sidewalks are narrow in spots; manageable with caution for wheelchair users.
