Standing at the tip of Istanbul’s historic peninsula since 1890, Sirkeci Station was built as the eastern endpoint of the legendary Paris–Istanbul Orient Express. Its red-brick and stone architecture blends late Ottoman and European styles, with a grand waiting hall lit by stained-glass windows.

The main concourse is open to the public free of charge, and the old platforms still hold a couple of vintage railway cars. A tiny railway museum, tucked inside a former ticket hall, displays old timetables, lanterns, and equipment from the line’s glory days. The station sits right beside the Golden Horn, just a short walk from Gülhane Park and the Topkapı Palace walls.

Local tip

The small museum is free but often locked; ask at the platform café for the attendant to open it.
