Florya
A leafy, affluent residential quarter along the Marmara Sea, Florya offers a long coastal promenade, beaches, and the historic Atatürk Marine Mansion, all easily accessible by Marmaray.
Florya is a serene seaside quarter in Istanbul's Bakırköy district, hugged by the Marmara Sea and bordering Yeşilköy and Küçükçekmece. It’s a quiet, green escape from the city’s denser core, known for its long, well-kept coastal promenade where locals come to walk, jog, or cycle with the sea breeze at hand. The quarter has a distinctly residential feel, with broad avenues and low-rise apartment blocks, and a population that tends toward the affluent end of the spectrum. The main draw is the shoreline: a string of small beaches and the Atatürk Marine Mansion, a wooden house built on a pier for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, now a museum. The promenade runs for several kilometres and is dotted with tea gardens, benches, and small cafes. Reaching Florya is simple—both Florya and Florya Akvaryum Marmaray stations drop you a short walk from the sea.
“For a relaxed seaside stroll, cheap tea by the water, and a glimpse of Atatürk’s wooden summer house.”
Bring a swimsuit in summer—the small public beach near Florya station is free and less crowded on weekday mornings.
The coastal promenade is flat and paved, suitable for wheelchairs and strollers; Marmaray stations have elevators.
