Bostancı
The eastern gateway of Kadıköy, where ferries to the Princes’ Islands depart and locals gather along the Marmara promenade. A relaxed coastal hub with plenty of waterfront cafés.
Bostancı sits at the far end of Kadıköy, right on the Sea of Marmara. For many Istanbullites, it’s simply where you catch a ferry to the Princes’ Islands — the pier is the main launch point for Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada, and Kınalıada. It’s also a self-contained coastal neighborhood with a long, landscaped promenade. Cafés and tea gardens line the shore, filled with families and couples especially on weekends. The sea air, the chatter of seagulls, and the sight of ferries slipping in and out make it a calm escape from the city grind, without ever leaving the city.
“To catch an island ferry and then linger over tea with a sea view on the promenade.”
The seaside tea gardens are calmest on weekday afternoons; by weekend lunchtimes finding an empty table is a real struggle.
The promenade and ferry pier are step-free, though some older cafés may have a small step at the entrance.
