Bebek
A leafy Bosphorus bay village of waterfront cafés and strolls on the European shore. Perfect for a lazy afternoon coffee with a sea view.
Bebek is that rare Istanbul neighbourhood where the city’s energy softens into something slower. Tucked into a bay on the European side of the Bosphorus, it’s where you come to walk along the water, sip a coffee, and watch the ferries glide past. The waterfront promenade stretches from the small Bebek Park to the mosque, lined with benches that fill up quickly on sunny weekends.
Most visitors gravitate to the cafés overlooking the bay, but the real pleasure is simply wandering. The park is small but well-kept, with plenty of shade and a playground. If you walk east along the shore, you’ll reach Rumeli Hisarı in about 20 minutes—a nice excuse to linger here first. Arrive by bus or ferry; the stop drops you practically at the water’s edge.
“To see how Istanbul's well-heeled locals spend a lazy afternoon by the Bosphorus.”
Skip the pricey waterfront cafés and grab a simit from one of the small bakeries on Cevdet Paşa Caddesi—same view, friendlier prices.
The waterfront promenade and Bebek Park are flat and step-free. Side streets may have uneven surfaces or curbs.
