Arter
A Vehbi Koç Foundation contemporary art museum in Dolapdere with rotating exhibitions, striking architecture, and a well-curated bookshop.
Arter, the contemporary art museum of the Vehbi Koç Foundation, moved from its Istiklal Avenue location to a purpose-built building in Dolapdere in 2019. Designed by Grimshaw Architects, the structure houses exhibition halls, performance spaces, workshops, and a large terrace. Its rotating programme brings together Turkish and international artists, offering a fresh perspective with each visit. Unlike a conventional museum, there is no permanent collection; instead, curated temporary shows take centre stage. The building itself is worth exploring: the sculptural staircase, the bookshop with independent art publications, and the terrace café overlooking the Golden Horn make it a destination beyond the art.
“For its ever-changing contemporary art shows and the striking architecture.”
After the exhibitions, grab a tea at the terrace café with Golden Horn views and browse the indie publications in the ground-floor bookshop.
Wheelchair accessible via elevators to all floors.
