Galataport is a huge, 400,000-square-meter project that transformed a long stretch of Karaköy's shoreline. It's not just a cruise ship terminal; it's a whole district with around 250 shops and places to eat, the Peninsula hotel, and the relocated Istanbul Modern art museum, all set along the water. The design keeps the walkway open to the public, so you can stroll the full 1.2 km length and enjoy the views without needing to go into any of the venues. It's a very contemporary take on the Istanbul coastline, hosting festivals and events, and feels quite different from the historic areas just up the hill.
The public promenade is open 24/7, but most shops and restaurants close by 11pm. It's much calmer on weekday mornings.
The entire waterfront promenade is step-free and paved. Access to shops, restaurants, and the museum is via level entries or ramps.
